Built like a standards body, because it is one.
National Standards for Patient Payment Protection is organized as an independent, nonprofit standards organization. Its standards, credentials, and registry are governed by a compensated board of ion &aors seated for independence — including a former financial-services regulator, a consumer advocate, practicing clinicians, and a payments-industry expert — supported by standards councils for each field of care, jurisdiction advisory committees co-seated with adopting associations, an audit standards committee, and an independent ethics and appeals panel. Founding board announcements begin in late 2026.
The Standards are free to read. Certification criteria, audit methodology, platform-recognition criteria, and every fee schedule are published and applied identically to all comers.
Administrative and technology services are provided under contract by a management services company; the arrangement — including its founding relationships in the compliance-technology sector — is disclosed and governed by the board's conflict-of-interest policy, with recusal requirements and independent-director control of any decision touching a disclosed interest.
Denials, revocations, audit disputes, and complaints are adjudicated by an ethics and appeals panel with an independent chair. A certification no one can lose is not a certification.
The certification programs are designed to align with the requirements of recognized personnel-certification accreditors (NCCA; ISO/IEC 17024), and the organization intends to pursue accreditation once the required operating history exists. Until granted, NSPPP makes no accreditation claim.
